My Practice
Studio Owner and Instructor
Kylah Magee is a singer, piano player, vocal coach, researcher, yoga practitioner, runner, wife, and mother. She is also a lifelong student. Of all these passions, her continuous quest for learning is what drives her to share the teachings of singing and music, and it is her students who inspire her the most.
Early Voice Lessons and Discovery
Introduced to her first voice lesson in 1990, Kylah was amazed to learn how singing was much more than a natural talent like she’d been led to believe. Singing, just like with any other skill, whether it be in music, athletics, or academics, was strengthened through consistent practice and discipline.
Academic and Teaching Journey
Kylah studied music and earned her B.M. in vocal performance at Texas State University in 2001. Her first big teaching adventure was in the middle school classroom in Dallas, Texas, where her innate ability to connect one-on-one with students was developed. Through her journey of teaching young singers, Kylah became acquainted with the path of service and realized that her passion lies in taking the seat of the teacher and helping others.
Opening Nine Muses Studio
In 2007, Kylah received her M.A. from Chapman University, while simultaneously teaching private voice lessons across southern California. She settled in Austin, Texas in 2009 and opened her private voice studio, Nine Muses Studio, in 2011.
Over her 25 years of singing, Kylah has performed throughout the country at The Hollywood Bowl, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Meyerson Symphony Center, and Carnegie Hall, and with ensembles such as the L.A. Philharmonic, Pacific Chorale, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and the Austin Symphony.
Kylah is an experienced singing teacher registered with the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), where she has been recognized in the Singer of the Year Competitions and NATS Artist Awards.
Her students frequently participate in regional and statewide competitions, perform in theaters and ensembles nationwide, and have gained admission to prestigious schools such as Berklee School of Music and NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Kylah has received extensive formal training under the guidance of esteemed mentors, including Ms. Sandra Peterson, Mr. Phil Raddin, Dr. Juli Wood, Ms. Lenore Sergi, Ms. Mary Beth Smith, Dr. John Schmidt, and Dr. Joey Martin.
In addition to her musical expertise, Kylah has dedicated years to studying and training as a yoga practitioner, developing a deep understanding of breath, proprioception, and kinesthesia. She has earned teacher training certificates in both yoga and somatic healing.
There is but one solution to the intricate riddle of life; to improve ourselves, and contribute to the happiness of others.

Personalized Vocal Coaching and the Healing Power of Singing
Whether it’s coaching for an upcoming audition or performance, or private instruction that journeys further into vocal technique, Kylah takes into account each singer’s unique starting point, their physical characteristics, environment, personality, and comfort level, to accurately determine the best route for individual practice.
Kylah views vocal lessons as a vehicle for healing and has made teaching and singing her life’s work, not because she expects everyone to major in music or to play professionally. But rather, because using our voices, and living with music, is essential for a healthy life.
Singing is for everyone, from childhood to old age. Singing is therapeutic, creates empathy, and is part of our history and ancestry. Everyone should be experiencing music in their life, for their own health and well-being.
